PTCL Clears Key Regulatory Hurdle as PTA Approves Telenor Pakistan Acquisition

Pakistan’s telecom sector is set for a major shift after PTA allowed the PTCL to move forward with its plan to acquire Telenor Pakistan.

The approval comes in the form of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) granted after what the regulator described as a detailed and careful review of the deal.

According to officials, the PTA examined how the acquisition could affect market competition, service quality and consumer rights.

The authority also consulted other government institutions to ensure that the transaction met all legal and regulatory requirements.

With the NOC now issued, PTCL can continue with the acquisition process, although it must still complete the remaining legal and commercial steps before taking full control. PTA has made it clear that both PTCL and Telenor Pakistan must maintain uninterrupted services during the transition and strictly follow all licence terms.

Regulators added that they will keep a close watch on the merger process to make sure customer interests remain protected and that the telecom market stays competitive.

The authority also emphasized that the goal is to ensure that Pakistan’s telecom sector moves forward with stability and innovation.

Industry experts believe this development could reshape the country’s telecommunications landscape, potentially leading to stronger network services and improved digital connectivity.

The coming months will determine how smoothly the transition unfolds and what it means for millions of mobile users across the country.
