The Lahore Development Authority has sealed 102 commercial properties across Lahore in a major enforcement drive against illegal commercial use. Officials said the properties were either operating without proper approval, had not paid required commercialization fees, or were violating land use rules.
The operation covered several areas, including Faisal Town, Garden Town, Gulshan Ravi, Samanabad, Lahore Avenue Scheme, and New Defense Road. A wide range of businesses were affected, such as schools, clinics, pharmacies, grocery stores, restaurants, offices, beauty salons, and workshops.
Authorities stated that strict action was necessary to ensure compliance with city planning laws and maintain organized urban development.
Urban experts say such crackdowns are part of broader efforts to regulate commercial expansion in residential areas. In recent years, many properties in Lahore have been converted for business use without formal approval, leading to traffic congestion, parking issues, and pressure on public services.
However, the move has also raised concerns among small business owners and investors. Many fear financial losses due to sudden closures, especially during peak business seasons.
Real estate analysts believe the action may temporarily slow commercial activity in affected areas. At the same time, they argue that consistent enforcement can improve transparency and restore investor confidence in the long term.
The LDA has indicated that property owners can regularize their status by clearing dues and obtaining proper permissions.
Officials say continued enforcement drives will follow to ensure that all commercial activities operate within legal limits.
