Pakistan’s local manufacturing and assembly plants have shown strong growth in mobile phone production at the start of 2026.
During the first two months, around 4.57 million mobile phones were produced locally, including 2.03 million smartphones and 2.54 million 2G devices. In comparison, only 0.87 million units were imported during the same period.
The trend reflects a growing shift toward local production. In 2025, Pakistan produced about 30.21 million mobile handsets, which is significantly higher than the 2.37 million units imported that year.
This shows the country’s increasing capacity to meet its own demand through domestic manufacturing. However, despite higher local production, the value of mobile imports still increased.
Between July and February of the fiscal year 2025–26, imports rose by 29.6% in value, reaching $1.295 billion. This suggests that higher-end or premium devices are still being brought in from abroad.
At the same time, February recorded a 13.26% month-on-month decline in imports, indicating a possible slowdown in purchasing from international markets.
According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, about 71% of mobile devices currently active on the national network are smartphones. This highlights a steady rise in smartphone adoption across the country.
