Pakistan Gold Imports Fall 48% in 11 Months of FY2025-26

Pakistan imported only 306 kilograms of gold during the first 11 months (July-May) of the current fiscal year 2025-26. This marks a big decline of 47.79% in value and 21.65% in quantity compared to the same period last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The total value of gold imports stood at $16.09 million this year, down from $30.82 million in the previous period. Experts link this drop to high gold prices in the international market, economic challenges, and reduced demand from local jewellers and investors. Many people shifted to other investments or cheaper alternatives amid tight economic conditions.

However, May 2026 showed a strong recovery. Gold imports jumped 228% year-on-year to $3.04 million, with quantity rising to 20 kg from 9 kg in May 2025. This monthly increase suggests some improvement in demand towards the end of the period.

Gold remains popular in Pakistan for jewellery, weddings, and as a safe investment during uncertain times. Lower imports may affect the local jewellery industry, which provides jobs to many people. Pakistan continues to focus on building reserves and stabilizing the economy while balancing essential trade needs.
