MEPCO Turns Rs 36 Billion Loss into Rs 1.05 Billion Profit in Two Years

Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has made an impressive recovery. The company turned a huge loss of Rs 36 billion into a profit of Rs 1.05 billion in just two years. The Power Division announced this positive development on Wednesday.

MEPCO is one of the largest power distribution companies in Pakistan. It serves millions of consumers in South Punjab. The turnaround happened because of strong reforms under Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari. Key changes included better governance, financial discipline, digital tools, and more transparency.

The company reduced its line losses from 15.2% to 11.9%. At the same time, its bill recovery rate improved from 98.6% to 100.8%. These steps helped control electricity theft, improve billing, and use modern monitoring systems.

This success is part of the government’s larger plan to fix all power distribution companies (DISCOs). The goal is to reduce circular debt, increase efficiency, and make the power sector sustainable. Officials called MEPCO’s progress an important example that shows reforms can bring real results.

Better performance by companies like MEPCO can lower electricity costs for consumers in the long run and help the national economy. It also builds confidence in public sector institutions. The Power Division hopes other companies will follow MEPCO’s path of improvement through hard work and technology.
