Pakistan’s Telecom Sector Records Over Rs. 1 Trillion Revenue as Broadband Users Reach 150 Million

Pakistan’s telecommunications industry reported strong growth in FY 2025, crossing the Rs. 1 trillion mark in total revenue and expanding its broadband user base to 150 million people.

Telecom operators and regulators say this surge reflects wider access to internet services, rising data use, and expanding digital demand across urban and rural areas.

According to the latest industry data, key growth indicators show a sharp rise in broadband penetration. The number of broadband users increased by more than 18 percent from the previous year, driven in large part by a nearly 26 percent jump in 4G subscribers.

Mobile broadband remains the main driver of this trend as people use internet services for work, education, social media, and entertainment.

Alongside subscriber growth, mobile data usage also saw a big increase, with reported data traffic growing over 30 percent as users rely more on streaming, online meetings, and digital platforms.

The number of active mobile subscribers nationwide now stands close to 198 million, showing that telecom services continue to reach a broad cross section of the population.

Investment in network infrastructure has also kept pace with demand, with the number of cell sites rising by 9 percent to improve coverage and service quality in both city centres and remote regions.

Telecom companies say this expansion is vital to handle increasing internet usage and future technologies.

The telecom industry’s strong revenue performance is supported by higher broadband traffic and rising average revenue per user (ARPU), which rose significantly compared with the previous year.

Foreign direct investment into the sector also climbed sharply, reflecting growing investor confidence even amid broader economic challenges.

Regulators and industry leaders believe the sector’s success will help support Pakistan’s broader digital economy. With more people online and data services expanding, there are opportunities for growth in e‑commerce, digital education, mobile banking, and technology startups.

Despite these gains, officials acknowledge challenges remain, such as extending high‑speed connectivity to underserved areas and managing the costs of future upgrades.

Still, the latest figures show that telecom continues to be the backbone of Pakistan’s digital transformation.
