The federal government has increased the price of kerosene oil by Rs34.08 per litre, pushing the new rate to Rs467.48 per litre. The hike took effect on April 3, 2026, along with record increases in petrol and diesel prices.
Kerosene is widely known as the “poor man’s fuel” because many low-income families in rural areas and colder regions use it for cooking and heating. The sharp rise will add more pressure on household budgets already strained by expensive petrol (Rs458.40/litre) and diesel (Rs520.35/litre).
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) notified the new price following global oil market volatility caused by tensions in the Middle East. Officials said the adjustment was necessary to align domestic rates with international trends and to manage the country’s energy subsidy burden.
This latest increase comes after several smaller hikes in recent weeks. In just a short period, kerosene prices have climbed significantly, making it one of the most expensive petroleum products.
The move is expected to raise the cost of living for millions of families who depend on kerosene. Small businesses and certain industries that use kerosene as an alternative fuel may also face higher expenses.
The government has not announced any special relief package for kerosene users. Experts warn that repeated fuel price hikes without proper support measures could worsen inflation and increase hardship for the poor.
Many citizens are now hoping for targeted subsidies to ease the growing burden of energy costs.
