Pakistan has launched the Sky47 Karakorum-01 Data Centre, described as the country’s largest AI-ready facility. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir jointly inaugurated the centre on 24 July 2026 in the Islamabad area.
Developed by Sky47 Limited, a majority-owned subsidiary of Mari Energies, the campus is purpose-built for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and cloud services. It has an initial power capacity of 8.5 megawatts and meets Tier III/IV standards. The facility features sovereign cloud architecture, which keeps sensitive government, financial, and commercial data securely hosted inside Pakistan.
This project strengthens the nation’s digital infrastructure and reduces dependence on foreign data-hosting services. It offers enterprise-grade security, cybersecurity tools, and scalable computing power for government offices, banks, telecom firms, healthcare providers, and technology companies. Officials say it will support advanced AI workloads and help accelerate digital transformation across public services.
Prime Minister Shehbaz called the facility “awe-inspiring” and a major step toward a progressive digital future. He praised the combined efforts of military and civilian experts who completed the project in record time. Plans are already underway to build similar centres in Karachi and Lahore, including a 5-megawatt site at Port Qasim expected by September.
By expanding local AI and cloud capacity, the Sky47 Karakorum-01 Data Centre marks an important milestone in building Pakistan’s digital ecosystem and improving data security for the long term.
