Pakistan’s rice export sector continues to show strong potential in global markets. In July 2026, the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) secured orders for 60,000 metric tons of Pakistani rice from leading Chinese buyers in Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
A REAP delegation, supported by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), held business meetings with Chinese importers, distributors, and traders. The group, led by Senior Vice Chairman Muhammad Jawed Jillani, promoted both basmati and non-basmati varieties. Chinese buyers valued the rice for its quality, aroma, competitive pricing, and reliable supply.
Rice ranks among Pakistan’s top agricultural exports and is the country’s second-largest export sector after textiles. In the previous fiscal year, Pakistan shipped rice worth around $124–146 million to China alone. The new 60,000-ton order marks a clear step forward and builds on rising demand.
Large export deals create direct benefits for local farmers, rice processors, exporters, and related businesses. They also bring valuable foreign exchange and support jobs across the agricultural supply chain. Stronger market access and long-term partnerships with buyers in key markets like China help Pakistan expand its agricultural exports.
As global food demand changes, consistent quality, better marketing, and closer trade ties will help Pakistan strengthen its position. Continued efforts by REAP and government bodies can open more opportunities for the farming and business communities while diversifying the country’s export base.
