Toyota Slashes Fortuner Prices, Shaking Pakistan’s Premium SUV Market

Toyota Indus Motor Company has surprised the auto market by sharply reducing prices of its Fortuner SUV in Pakistan.

Announced during Toyota’s 35th anniversary celebrations, the limited-time offer has sparked fresh discussion about price stability and buyer confidence in the premium SUV segment.

Under the new campaign, Toyota has cut prices of the Fortuner’s petrol variants by more than PKR 2.5 million. The Fortuner G is now priced at PKR 12.44 million, down from PKR 14.94 million while the Fortuner V has dropped to PKR 14.94 million from PKR 17.51 million. These revised prices are even lower than the model’s earlier base rates, a rare move in a category known for steady pricing.

The decision comes at a time when Pakistan’s auto industry is struggling with high inflation, costly financing and weak consumer demand.

Large SUVs have been particularly slow to sell, and Toyota’s aggressive pricing appears aimed at reviving interest and clearing petrol-powered stock.

However, the discount applies only to petrol variants. Diesel versions, which are more popular among local buyers due to better fuel efficiency and performance on long routes, remain unchanged.

This limitation has led some buyers to question how much the overall market will benefit.

The move has also drawn comparisons with Kia Pakistan, where repeated price adjustments in recent years hurt resale confidence and made buyers cautious.

Analysts warn that sudden price cuts can unsettle existing owners and cause potential buyers to delay purchases in hopes of further reductions.

At the same time, Toyota is facing increasing competition from brands like Haval, Jaecoo, and BYD. These companies are offering newer designs, advanced features, and hybrid or electric options, challenging long-established players.

While Toyota says the Fortuner discount is a one-time celebration offer, market observers believe the company must balance short-term sales gains with long-term trust. How buyers respond will shape the future of pricing in Pakistan’s premium SUV market.
