The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has achieved remarkable success by making 11 new oil and gas discoveries across Pakistan in recent months.
This impressive performance has given a major boost to the country’s energy sector. The discoveries are expected to increase domestic oil production by 21.1% and gas production by 4%. One of the standout discoveries is at the Buragzai field in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is estimated to produce 13,534 barrels of oil and 119 million cubic feet of gas annually.
These new finds will help reduce Pakistan’s heavy dependence on imported oil and gas. Currently, the country imports 80-90% of its crude oil needs, putting huge pressure on the economy and foreign reserves.
OGDCL, Pakistan’s largest exploration and production company, continues to lead aggressive exploration efforts in different parts of the country. The new reserves will support national energy security, create more jobs, and help lower the overall energy import bill.
Experts believe that consistent discoveries like these are essential for Pakistan to move towards self-sufficiency in energy. The government has also been awarding new exploration blocks to encourage further investment in the sector.
This achievement by OGDCL is being seen as a positive development amid ongoing energy challenges in the country.
