Pakistan is preparing to promote its large and largely untapped gemstone resources through its first international gemstone exhibition.
Officials estimate that the country’s gemstone sector has a potential value of around $450 billion if properly developed and brought into formal trade channels.
The upcoming event will showcase precious stones such as emeralds, rubies, topaz, and other high-value minerals found in different regions of the country. The aim is to connect local miners and traders with international buyers and investors.
Government representatives said the initiative is designed to shift the gemstone industry from informal trading to a more regulated and transparent system.
This includes better certification processes, improved quality control, and value addition before export.
The exhibition is expected to attract experts and companies from around the world. Officials believe this will help open new markets for Pakistani gemstones and improve the country’s global reputation in the mineral sector.
Authorities also see the project as an opportunity to increase foreign exchange earnings and create new employment opportunities, especially in mining and trade-related industries. Small-scale miners and local businesses are expected to benefit from easier access to international markets.
The plan includes support measures such as export facilitation, training for traders, and improved logistics to help move gemstones more efficiently to global buyers.
Experts say Pakistan has long been rich in mineral resources, but lack of structure and marketing has limited its global share.
The new initiative aims to change that by building a stronger and more organized gemstone industry.
