The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved Rs. 10.15 billion for a major defence project linked to the Pakistan Navy. The funding supports the Hangor Project as part of the RAFDP-2030 (Rafale Aircraft and Force Development Package-2030). This decision was made during an ECC meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, on Friday, June 5, 2026.
The Hangor Project focuses on strengthening the Pakistan Navy’s submarine capabilities and overall maritime defence. It is a key part of long-term modernisation plans to enhance national security and defence readiness. The allocation is a Technical Supplementary Grant aimed at boosting defence capabilities without delays.
The ECC meeting also approved several other important grants. These include Rs. 7 billion for the Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme, funds for security projects in Islamabad, expansion of the Safe City project, and support for infrastructure in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additional approvals covered the Pakistan Coast Guards, NACTA, Reko Diq security, and other development needs.
This move shows the government’s commitment to modernising Pakistan’s armed forces. Defence experts believe such investments are necessary to maintain peace and respond to regional challenges. The RAFDP-2030 package aims to bring advanced technology and better coordination between different defence wings.
The decision comes at a time when Pakistan is focusing on strengthening its defence amid economic challenges. Officials say these funds will help complete ongoing projects on time and support the country’s strategic goals.
