Pakistan is ready to host the 14th South Asian Games after 22 years. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved Rs. 11 billion to organize this big multi-sport event in March 2027. The funds will be released in phases to cover stadium upgrades, logistics, opening and closing ceremonies, and other arrangements.
A special South Asian Games Secretariat will be set up in Islamabad to manage all preparations. Officials say major venues in Lahore, Islamabad, and Faisalabad are already ready for the games. Security will be a top priority, with protected Games Villages for athletes and officials.
More than 3,500 athletes from eight South Asian countries are expected to take part in 27 different sports. Large teams from India and Afghanistan will also join. The opening ceremony in Lahore is likely to attract huge attention across the region.
This event gives Pakistan a great chance to show its sporting facilities and ability to host big international events. It will also help promote friendship and cooperation among South Asian nations through sports. Young and emerging athletes from the region will get an important platform to shine.
The government has directed all concerned departments to start work immediately. Hosting the South Asian Games is seen as a major step to boost sports in Pakistan and improve its image as a safe and capable host country.
