The Punjab government is taking a big step to prepare young students for the future by introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in schools. The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board has approved AI education for children up to Grade 5. This plan includes creating special AI laboratories in primary schools across the province.
Under the new program, AI will become a regular subject in the school curriculum. In the first phase, students will learn basic AI concepts through classes. In the second phase, the government will build modern science and AI labs so children can gain hands-on experience with technology.
Because most government school teachers do not have AI training, the province will hire qualified education experts on contract. This will help deliver quality lessons right from the start.
Officials have also made a backup plan. If there are budget problems, basic AI topics will be added to the existing science textbooks instead of creating new materials.
The full program is expected to start in the 2027 academic year after final approval at the next board meeting. This move shows Punjab’s focus on modern education and digital skills. By teaching AI early, the government hopes to help students develop problem-solving abilities, creativity, and technical knowledge needed for future jobs in technology and science.
