Pakistan Vietnam PTA Expected Soon to Boost Trade Beyond $1 Billion

Pakistan and Vietnam are expected to sign a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) soon. Both countries want to increase business ties and grow their trade. Vietnam’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Pham Anh Tuan, said talks have made good progress after four rounds of negotiations.

Current bilateral trade between the two nations stands at around $900 million. The new PTA is expected to push this figure above $1 billion. It will help reduce taxes and other barriers on goods moving between the countries. This will make it easier and cheaper for businesses to buy and sell products.

The agreement focuses on several important areas. It aims to boost investment, create joint ventures, and open new doors in textiles, agriculture, information technology, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing. Pakistan can export more rice, cotton, leather, and sports goods, while Vietnam may send electronics, machinery, and processed foods.

Vietnam is a fast-growing economy in Southeast Asia and a member of ASEAN. For Pakistan, this PTA is a smart way to increase trade with the region and reduce dependence on traditional markets. In recent years, Pakistan’s exports to Vietnam have grown strongly, showing good potential.

Experts believe the deal will create jobs and bring new technology. It can also encourage Pakistani companies to set up factories or partnerships in Vietnam. Both sides are working on details to make sure the agreement benefits small and large businesses equally.

The PTA comes at a time when both countries are looking for new growth opportunities. Once signed, it could serve as a stepping stone for even stronger economic relations, including a full Free Trade Agreement in the future.
