Karachi has started its first bicycle ambulance service to help people in crowded and narrow areas where regular ambulances often get stuck in traffic. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab officially launched the free service through the Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services (SIEHS-1122).
The special bicycles are equipped with important medical tools. These include first-aid kits, oxygen supplies, trauma equipment, nebulizers, and other basic emergency items. Trained responders ride the bikes to reach patients quickly. They give immediate care on the spot and call a regular ambulance if the patient needs hospital transport.
This new service is perfect for Karachi’s busy markets, informal settlements, and tight lanes. In these places, big vehicles face big delays due to heavy traffic and narrow roads. Officials say faster response in the first few minutes can save lives in cases like heart attacks, heavy bleeding, or accidents. Health experts agree that quick help greatly improves survival chances.
SIEHS-1122 already runs ambulances, motorcycle responders, and rescue services across Sindh. The bicycle ambulances add a smart new option that fits city needs. The service is completely free so everyone can use it, no matter their financial situation.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab rode one of the bicycles at the launch event. If the project works well, it may expand to other busy cities in Sindh.
