The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has achieved a major milestone in digital governance. It successfully held Pakistan’s first-ever online auction for fishing rights in public water bodies. This e-auction for Zebi Dam in Karak district brought a remarkable 155% increase in revenue.
Organized by the KP Livestock and Fisheries Department, the fully digital process marked a new era of transparency and efficiency. Arif & Brothers won the lease with the highest bid of Rs. 3.051 million, compared to the previous value of Rs. 1.2 million. The new system removes middlemen, allows real-time bidding, and lets people from across Pakistan participate easily. It also creates a clear digital record for better accountability.
Officials say this initiative will improve public trust and fair competition. Following this success, the department plans to hold similar e-auctions for 17 more dams and reservoirs, including the important Tarbela Dam, for the 2026-29 period. Reserve prices have already been set based on careful studies of fish production potential.
KP is also building a Digital Reservoir Management System. This tool will help with scientific monitoring, conservation, and better planning for fisheries. Livestock Secretary Zariful Maani praised the project as a step toward sustainable resource management.
This achievement positions KP as a leader in using technology for public assets. It can serve as a model for other provinces. By going digital, KP is not only increasing income but also promoting modern, honest, and sustainable fisheries management for the future.
