Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has received 10 modern electric buses from Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz sent the fleet as a gift to the people of the region. The buses left from Murree and reached Muzaffarabad, the capital of AJK, within a few hours. They started operating soon after arrival.
Trained drivers and technical staff also went with the buses to keep the service running smoothly. Maryam Nawaz called the project “a gift from the people of Punjab to the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.” She said millions of people in Punjab already use electric buses and hoped residents of AJK would enjoy the same modern, affordable and eco-friendly transport.
The buses form part of a larger support package for AJK. It also includes 15 Clinics on Wheels, 2,000 scholarships for students and 5,000 laptops. These steps aim to improve healthcare, education and opportunities for young people.
The electric buses were promised during a public campaign in Muzaffarabad a few days earlier. The government fulfilled the pledge quickly. Officials expect the new service to make daily travel easier in the city while cutting fuel use and reducing air pollution.
This move supports cleaner public transport and shows cooperation between Punjab and AJK. It is hoped the green buses will benefit local commuters and set an example for environment-friendly travel in the region.
