A Pakistan-born retired naval officer has achieved a proud milestone in the United Kingdom. Councillor Faisal Rana has been elected as the Mayor of Rochdale for the 2026-27 civic year. He officially took charge on May 20, 2026.
Born in Lahore, Faisal Rana started his career as a commissioned officer in the Pakistan Navy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and specialized in marine engineering. He also completed a diploma in warship construction at the DCN Lorient Naval Shipbuilding Dockyard in France. Later, he moved to the United Kingdom and settled there.
In Rochdale Council, Rana has held several important positions. These include Assistant Cabinet Member for Public Health, work on finance matters, and chairing the Rochdale North Township Committee. Outside politics, he brings over 20 years of business experience, including as a director of a company linked to Shell UK Limited. He is also a licensed private pilot and enjoys playing badminton.
