11 Groups Bid for 51–100% Stake in GEPCO

The privatisation of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) has attracted strong interest from both local and foreign investors. On the closing date for Expressions of Interest, the Privatisation Commission received bids from 11 parties. These investors want to buy between 51 percent and 100 percent of GEPCO shares along with full management control.

The interested groups include three companies from Türkiye, one from Saudi Arabia and several well-known Pakistani business houses. The Turkish firms are Aktor Elektrik, Genvera Enerji and Cengiz Enerji. From Saudi Arabia, Al Sharif Contracting and Commercial Development Company has also submitted its interest.

Among Pakistani bidders are Engro Energy, Sapphire Fibers, K-Electric, Shirazi Investments, and consortia involving Hub Power Holdings with Lucky Cement, Artistic Milliners with Fatima Group, and AKD Securities with Fast Cable and Mughal Steel.

Privatisation Commission Chairman Muhammad Ali said the strong response shows that investors have confidence in Pakistan’s power distribution sector and in the government’s transparent privatisation process. The sale of GEPCO is part of a larger plan to privatise several electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) to improve efficiency and reduce losses.

Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) had earlier received 12 expressions of interest, while the deadline for Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) is 7 September 2026.
