Jazz has become the first mobile operator in Pakistan to upgrade 1,000 sites to 5G. This marks a big step in the country’s move to faster, next-generation mobile networks. The service now reaches 10 cities and forms the largest 5G footprint in Pakistan so far.
Jazz started 5G earlier in 2026 with about 180 sites in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan and Faisalabad. It later added Sialkot and Gujranwala. The company plans to grow this to 2,500 live 5G sites by the end of 2026.
To support the expansion, Jazz bought a large amount of extra radio spectrum in the recent national auction. It gained 190 MHz across key bands, raising its total spectrum from about 94 MHz to 284 MHz, nearly three times more than before. This extra capacity helps deliver higher speeds, better reliability and more room for both 5G and 4G users.
The rollout is part of Jazz’s wider $1 billion investment plan for network upgrades over the next few years. The company’s total investment in Pakistan has now reached around $12 billion.
Jazz GSM President Kazim Mujtaba said the fast progress shows the company’s aim to bring 5G benefits to more people quickly. The focus is on greater capacity, faster speeds and more reliable connections, while also enabling new uses as more people and businesses adopt the technology.
For everyday users the first gains may be modest, but 5G is expected to help industries, companies and government services the most. It can support smart systems, better data links and new digital tools. Jazz has also noted that 5G sites need more electricity than 4G and has asked for power grid improvements to keep the network running smoothly.
