A private school in Karachi has introduced an AI-powered robotic teacher named Miss Aini, marking a new step in the use of technology in Pakistan’s education sector. Happy Palace School’s Asfahani Campus in Gulshan-e-Iqbal officially inducted the robot on November 1, 2024.
Miss Aini was created by engineer Hassan Siddiqui, who developed the robot in seven months. The robot was built using locally available materials, including wiring, fibreglass, plastic, and synthetic hair sourced from markets in Karachi. The project cost more than Rs300,000 to develop.
The AI teacher can answer students’ questions in more than 20 languages and currently helps teach seven subjects. It uses Wi-Fi for its operation and can assist students with questions and learning activities. The school has also given Miss Aini a monthly salary of Rs100,000.
School officials said the robot is not meant to replace human teachers. Instead, it works as an assistant that can provide quick answers and help students become familiar with modern technology. Future upgrades are expected to add motion detectors and sensors, allowing Miss Aini to blink, make gestures, and interact more naturally with students.
The project began as a pilot in March, was completed in August, and started classes in November. The school sees the initiative as a way to give students early exposure to AI and robotics while exploring new tools for education.
