Pakistani Rupee Set to Hit 277 Against US Dollar for the First Time in 21 Months

The Pakistani rupee continues to show strength against the US dollar. On Monday, July 13, 2026, it closed in the green for the 196th day in a row. The rupee gained three paisas and closed at 278.02 against the dollar. Experts say it may reach 277 any time this week.

This would be the first time the rupee touches 277 in 21 months. It was last seen at that level in October 2024. The steady gains started on December 25, 2025, and have continued strongly since then.

The positive trend comes as Pakistan’s economy benefits from record remittances and other foreign inflows. In the previous fiscal year, remittances reached an all-time high of $41.6 billion. This has helped improve foreign exchange reserves and supported the rupee.

Strong performance of the rupee also reflects better management of the external account and efforts by the State Bank of Pakistan to maintain stability. Exchange companies have supplied billions of dollars to banks, adding to the positive pressure on the currency.

Performance Against Other Currencies

The rupee remained stable against the UAE Dirham and gained one paisa against the Saudi Riyal. It showed bigger gains against major currencies: 52 paisas against the British Pound and 17 paisas against the Euro. It also improved 14 paisas against the Australian Dollar and 35 paisas against the Canadian Dollar.

A stronger rupee is good news for importers and people paying for foreign education or travel, as it reduces costs. However, it can make exports a bit less competitive. Economists will watch if this trend continues or if global factors bring changes
