Faisalabad has become home to Punjab’s first public-sector e-bike battery swapping station. The pilot project allows electric bike users to replace a drained battery with a fully charged one in about one minute.
Divisional Commissioner Faisalabad Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh inaugurated the facility. It is part of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s efforts to promote clean, affordable and modern transport. The station currently has two battery-swapping cabinets that can support 24 batteries. Officials plan to install 50 such cabinets across Faisalabad by December 2026.
Users can register through the E-Swap app. After providing basic identity and address details and completing verification, they can pay online via EasyPaisa, JazzCash or banking apps. The service operates on a subscription model and provides access to electric bikes, batteries, and swapping stations.
The main goals are to reduce air pollution and encourage more people to use eco-friendly electric bikes instead of petrol vehicles. During the inauguration, officials demonstrated the quick battery swap process live. Electric bike riders welcomed the new facility and thanked the Punjab government and local administration for the convenient service.
The programme is expected to introduce 50,000 electric bikes in phases, supported by 1,500 smart docking stations across the city. The first phase includes 10,000 e-bikes, with the system using mobile technology, GPS tracking, and battery swapping to improve access and reduce charging delays.
This project is a practical step toward cleaner urban mobility in Punjab.
