Pakistan has achieved a new high in fish and seafood exports, earning nearly $570 million/$0.57 Billion in fiscal year 2025-26. This marks the strongest performance yet for the country’s fisheries sector, according to the Marine Fisheries Department.
The strong results come after years of steady recovery. Pakistani seafood has regained space on European Union store shelves, helping rebuild trust among international buyers after a long ban that started in 2007. Partial market access was granted to a few companies in 2013, and recent progress has restored confidence among European brands and consumers.
Major export items included frozen fish, squid, cuttlefish, fish meal, shrimps, and crabs. Shipments went mainly to China, Thailand, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Indonesia, and the United States. Officials noted that the record was achieved despite regional trade and shipping disruptions.
The department believes Pakistan can push exports much higher, potentially up to $3 billion, by focusing more on processed and value-added products instead of mainly shipping raw materials. Better processing, packaging, and product development would help the country earn more from its rich marine resources.
