The Sindh government is actively distributing solar home systems to bring electricity to more households across the province. In the latest phase, 140 eligible families in Tharparkar and Ghotki received solar kits under the Roshan Ghar – Roshan Sindh initiative.
Distribution ceremonies took place in Mithi and Mirpur Mathelo. A total of 118 households in Tharparkar and 22 in Ghotki got the kits. The project is funded by the Sindh Energy Department and implemented by the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO).
The broader Solar Home System Project aims to provide reliable and affordable solar energy to 275,000 low-income households in 30 districts of Sindh. Beneficiaries are selected through careful surveys and verification to ensure transparency and fairness. Recipients also receive training on how to install, use, and maintain the systems safely.
This initiative is part of a larger effort to promote clean energy in rural areas, reduce dependence on traditional power sources, and fight electricity shortages. Solar power helps lower electricity bills and supports sustainable development in off-grid and on-grid communities.
Sindh’s focus on solar energy aligns with Pakistan’s national goals for renewable energy expansion. By providing free or subsidised solar kits, the government hopes to improve living standards, especially in remote and underdeveloped regions like Tharparkar.
Continued rollout is expected in other districts soon, bringing light and hope to thousands of families.
