PTCL Returns to Profit and Prepares for 5G Launch Next Month

PTCL has reported a strong financial recovery, returning to profit after more than four years.

According to its first-quarter results for 2026, the company recorded a net profit of Rs. 3.1 billion for the January to March period. This is a major improvement compared to a net loss of Rs4 billion in the same period last year.

The company also saw a significant increase in revenue, which rose by 58 percent year-on-year.

Officials said the improvement in performance is mainly due to the consolidation of Telenor Pakistan into the group.

This move helped boost growth across multiple areas, including broadband, enterprise services, wholesale, and mobile operations.

Operating profit increased sharply by 564 percent during the quarter, supported by a larger business base and improved efficiency.

PTCL management said the ongoing integration of its mobile subsidiary Ufone with Telenor Pakistan is expected to further enhance network coverage and service quality for customers.

The company is also preparing to launch 5G services in May through Ufone, pending approval of a commercial licence from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

Officials noted that external factors such as regional tensions could impact performance in the next quarter due to higher fuel and interest costs. However, they said measures are in place to manage these risks.

Meanwhile, U Bank also showed improved performance, reporting Rs5.8 billion in revenue and better profitability during the same period.
