Pakistan and Iran have agreed to strengthen road and rail connectivity to improve trade and transport between the two neighbouring countries. The decision was made during a meeting on June 25, 2026, between Pakistan’s Minister for Communications, Aleem Khan, and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh.
Both sides decided to reactivate the Pakistan-Iran Joint Transport Committee to solve long-standing issues. They will discuss ways to speed up clearance of trucks and containers at the border, making the movement of goods smoother and faster. Pakistani officials, including Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, and Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, also joined the talks.
Minister Aleem Khan expressed happiness over the return of peace in the region. He said better road and rail connections would open new trade opportunities and strengthen bilateral ties. The Iranian minister thanked Pakistan for its role in regional peace efforts and the recent ceasefire.
Improved connectivity is expected to boost economic cooperation. It will help reduce travel time for goods, lower costs, and increase trade volume. This move builds on earlier discussions about reviving the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul rail route.
The two countries are committed to resolving border issues and to working together on infrastructure improvements.
