Pakistan has encouraged Samsung to export smartphones manufactured in the country to emerging markets, especially African countries, as part of efforts to turn Pakistan into a regional technology manufacturing hub.
Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan held discussions with Samsung officials and highlighted the importance of increasing local value addition, technology transfer, and integration into global supply chains. He said Pakistan’s growing mobile manufacturing sector has the potential to support exports and create new economic opportunities.
The government also suggested establishing certified mobile phone refurbishment facilities in Pakistan. These centres could help create jobs, improve technical skills, and open new export channels for refurbished devices in international markets.
During the meeting, Samsung representatives discussed challenges related to tax policies and the import of used mobile phones. Both sides explored possible solutions to support sustainable growth in Pakistan’s mobile industry while improving the country’s position in the global technology market.
Pakistan has been working to expand local smartphone production through its mobile device manufacturing policy. Several international brands have already started assembling smartphones in the country, helping reduce dependence on imports and creating employment opportunities.
The government believes stronger partnerships with global technology companies like Samsung can help Pakistan move from a consumer market toward a manufacturing and export-focused technology economy.
