For the first time, Safe City drones will watch rivers, barrages, and headworks in real time to detect rising water levels and incoming flood waves.
This technology will help officials give early warnings and respond faster to flood risks. It is especially useful during the current monsoon season, when the Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains, urban flooding, flash floods, and hill torrents in many areas.
CM Maryam Nawaz directed all departments to stay fully prepared. She ordered them to use all available resources for emergency response. The government is focusing on clearing drains, removing dangerous electric wires, and stopping people from swimming in rivers and dams. Officials must also keep flood control rooms open 24 hours and issue timely warnings through media and mosques.
Punjab faces serious flood threats every year. Drones provide quick aerial views that traditional methods cannot match. They can spot problems early, help with evacuation plans in places like Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Murree, and improve coordination between teams such as PDMA, Rescue 1122, and WASA.
