Pakistan earned a trade surplus of about $480 million with the United States in the first two months of the current fiscal year. Exports to the US clearly outpaced imports during July and August 2026.
Official figures shared by Ministry of Commerce sources show that Pakistan sold goods worth $1.17 billion to the United States in those two months. This marked a rise of 10.46 percent from the $1.06 billion recorded in the same period a year earlier. At the same time, Pakistan bought goods worth roughly $690 million from the US. Imports jumped sharply by around 144 percent compared with the previous year’s $284 million.
Even with the big increase in American goods coming into the country, export earnings stayed much higher. This left Pakistan with a comfortable surplus of approximately $480 million.
The United States remains one of Pakistan’s most important markets for exports. In the full previous fiscal year (2025-26), Pakistan already posted a surplus of $2.59 billion with the US, after shipping $5.91 billion of goods and importing $3.32 billion.
| Period | Exports to US | Imports from US | Surplus |
|---|---|---|---|
| July-Aug 2026 | $1.17 billion | $690 million | $480 million |
| July-Aug 2025 | $1.06 billion | $284 million | — |
| Full FY 2025-26 | $5.91 billion | $3.32 billion | $2.59 billion |
While Pakistan’s overall trade deficit with the world has grown because total imports are rising faster than exports, the healthy surplus with the United States continues to bring valuable foreign exchange.
