The federal government has taken a strong step to support renewable energy by clearing a large backlog of net-metering applications. Under the direction of Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, the Power Division has resolved 11,695 pending cases.
These applications had piled up during the shift from the old net-metering system to the new net-billing rules. In total, 16,654 cases were pending. Officials launched a detailed verification process to check each one against official records, NEPRA guidelines, and existing rules. So far, 11,695 applications have been fully cleared and found to meet all requirements. Work on the remaining 4,959 cases is still going on.
The Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) has begun contacting approved consumers directly through SMS, WhatsApp, and other digital channels. People can also check their application status online through the official portal. Authorities have clearly warned consumers not to pay any agents or middlemen, as the process is free and handled directly by the government.
This effort aims to give genuine solar users their rights without unnecessary delays while blocking any fake or improper applications. Officials say the move supports the country’s wider goal of growing clean energy, making the power system more transparent, and helping households and businesses switch to solar more easily.
