Largest Batch of Electric Buses Arrives in Pakistan from China

Pakistan has received 600 battery-electric buses from China’s BAIC Foton Motor, a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Group. The delivery was announced on 15 August 2026 and marks the largest single order of new energy buses in the country so far under the National Electric Vehicle Policy 2025–2030.

These zero-emission buses will help improve public transport and reduce air pollution in Pakistani cities. The project also includes support for charging facilities. BAIC Foton will help local partners set up a knocked-down (KD) assembly plant. This will bring technology transfer and build local manufacturing skills for electric buses.

The move supports Pakistan’s goal of making electric vehicles 30% of new vehicle sales by 2030. Clean public transport is important for cutting fuel imports, lowering emissions and giving people better, quieter and more reliable travel options.

Officials see this delivery as a strong step toward greener cities and stronger China-Pakistan cooperation in the transport sector. Local technicians will receive training and support to operate and maintain the buses properly.

With more electric buses on the roads, Pakistan can move faster toward cleaner air and modern public transport.
