Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has reached out to Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation to discuss possible investments in the country’s mining and minerals sector. The move is part of ongoing efforts to bring more foreign companies into key areas of the economy.
Sumitomo Corporation is a large Tokyo-based trading and investment company with experience in resource projects around the world. SIFC is sharing details of available projects, the local investment climate, and support measures so the Japanese firm can assess opportunities in exploration, development, mineral processing, and related industries.
Pakistan holds significant mineral reserves, including copper, gold, and other industrial minerals. The mining sector currently plays a limited role in the national economy, and the government wants greater international participation to unlock its potential through modern methods and value addition.
SIFC has pointed to steps already taken to make investment easier. These include better facilitation processes, dedicated security arrangements for projects, and a focus on stable policies. Officials say such measures help create a more predictable setting for overseas businesses.
The engagement with Sumitomo reflects rising foreign interest in Pakistan’s natural resources. Similar outreach continues with other international partners as the country works to turn identified opportunities into lasting commercial projects that support jobs and economic growth.
This early contact does not yet involve a firm commitment or specific project announcement. If talks progress, they could open the door to technology, expertise, and capital that help develop Pakistan’s mineral wealth in a sustainable way.
