Pakistan to Build First Food and Agriculture Museum at UAF, Faisalabad

Pakistan is set to open its first Food and Agriculture Museum at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The project is expected to receive Rs 300 million in phased funding through the Punjab Higher Education Commission under the Annual Development Programme.

The museum will preserve the country’s agricultural heritage and show how farming has changed from traditional methods to modern technologies. It will cover an indoor display area of 55,000 square feet. Galleries will feature indigenous seed varieties, traditional wooden ploughs, greenhouse models, genomic breeding, and digital precision farming tools.

The plan was discussed during the third Joint Technical Meeting chaired by Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairperson Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali welcomed the participants and stressed the need to pass farming knowledge to future generations.

Prof. Dr. Khan said rapid modernisation is weakening historical memory, so reconnecting people with their cultural and agricultural roots is important. He described museums as places of learning, innovation, and public awareness that protect both artefacts and the scientific, cultural, and social story of farming communities. He also recalled that the Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute in Lyallpur (now UAF) was set up on the advice of the colonial Famine Commission to modernise agriculture in the subcontinent.

Earlier reports note the museum will also include outdoor space of about 32,000 square feet, more than 30 indoor galleries, a Hall of Fame, and interactive exhibits. The historic campus buildings designed by Bhai Ram Singh will form part of the experience.

Once complete, the museum aims to become a key centre for education and awareness about Pakistan’s rich farming past and its path toward modern, sustainable agriculture.
