The Punjab government has launched a new “Lab on Wheels” service to help farmers modernize their farming. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the initiative, calling it a major step toward digital and precision agriculture in the province.
Fully equipped mobile laboratories will now visit farms directly. Teams will collect soil and water samples on the spot. Agricultural experts will perform scientific tests immediately. Results will be uploaded to a special mobile app, and reports will be ready at once.
These digital reports will give farmers clear advice on the right fertilizers, best crops for their land, soil improvement methods, and nutrient management. Farmers will also receive the reports through SMS and WhatsApp on their phones. They no longer need to travel to a laboratory.
The service aims to lower production costs, make fertilizer use more efficient, raise crop yields, and increase farmers’ incomes through better data. On-site experts will also guide farmers on crop care and soil health during visits.
A central control room, live camera monitoring, and a digital dashboard will track work in real time to ensure transparency. Farmers can request the service through the system. After approval, a mobile lab team will visit the farm. Staff attendance and service delivery will be recorded on the app.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the project marks the beginning of a new era of scientific farming. Accurate soil testing and balanced fertilizer use will help Punjab grow more food, improve per-acre production, and support farmers’ livelihoods.
