Pakistan’s Mobile Phone Production Slows Down as April Output Sees Major Drop

Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing industry experienced a noticeable slowdown in April 2026 with production and assembly numbers falling significantly compared to the previous month.

According to recent industry data, local manufacturers assembled or produced around 1.81 million mobile phones during April, much lower than the 2.79 million units recorded in March.

The decline reflects weaker activity in the handset manufacturing sector during the month.

While local production dropped, imported mobile phones increased slightly. Around 370,000 phones were imported into the country in April, showing a modest rise compared to March figures.

The total number of mobile phones available in Pakistan, including both imported and locally assembled devices, also decreased sharply.

Overall supply stood at approximately 2.18 million units in April, compared to more than 3 million units in the previous month.

Despite the slowdown, locally assembled phones continued to hold the largest share in the market.

Most of Pakistan’s mobile demand was still met through domestic manufacturing and assembly, showing the industry’s strong role in reducing dependence on imports.

During the first four months of 2026, local production and assembly reached over 9 million units, highlighting that the sector remains active despite recent monthly declines.

Industry observers believe changes in consumer demand, inventory levels, or market conditions may have influenced April’s lower output. However, local manufacturing continues to be an important part of Pakistan’s technology and industrial landscape.

The performance of the sector in the coming months will be closely watched, as stable local production can help support employment, strengthen manufacturing capabilities, and reduce pressure from imported electronic goods in the country.
