First National Esports Policy Approved in Pakistan

The federal cabinet has approved Pakistan’s first National Esports Policy. This historic step formally recognizes competitive gaming as a professional, educational, and economic sector. It aims to support the country’s large gaming community and grow the digital economy.

Pakistan already has a vibrant esports scene with over 50 million gamers. The industry is growing fast, especially in mobile gaming. Pakistani players have won several international trophies in 2026, showing strong talent. However, the sector lacked formal structure and support until now.

The policy was prepared by the Pakistan Esports Task Force, led by Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan. It focuses on building a strong esports ecosystem through teamwork between government, private companies, universities, telecom firms, and players.

Key plans include setting up the Esports Federation of Pakistan for better regulation and growth. The policy will create training programs, competitive events, and pathways for young talent. It also promotes innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills in game development, animation, and visual effects (VFX).

Responsible gaming and player wellbeing are important parts of the framework. The government wants to make Pakistan a regional hub for esports by improving digital infrastructure and attracting international partnerships. Input from the British Esports Federation and Commonwealth Secretariat helped shape the policy.
