Lahore is preparing to start a new “Libraries on Wheels” programme that will bring books and digital learning tools directly to government schools. Officials have decided to hand over 55 electric vehicles to the Education Authority for this purpose.
Each vehicle will carry 22 tablets and a large LED screen so students can read books as well as use digital educational material. Charging points will be set up at schools so the electric vans can recharge easily. In the first stage, the vehicles will be based at selected pilot schools and then travel to serve other institutions. Planners expect each mobile library to support around 100 schools over time.
The project aims to give more students, especially those in schools with limited library facilities, regular access to reading material and modern learning technology. Education officials say the mobile libraries will help encourage a reading habit among children and improve the overall quality of education through a mix of books and interactive digital content.
The initiative is part of wider efforts in Punjab to expand educational opportunities and make learning resources more widely available. Once the vehicles are ready and the schedule is finalised, students across Lahore are expected to benefit from these travelling libraries.
